Pesticide Safety

This on-line class is specifically designed for Master Gardeners.  Even if you don’t feel compelled to use pesticides yourself, you may find this information useful as you educate the public to make good decisions.  This class in not required and there is no cost to Virginia master gardeners.

Users will need to register with Virginia Tech Pesticide Programs (VTPP) in order to use the system.  There is no time limit to using this course.

This publication is available in Video format only. “Integrated Pest Management” is module 1 of the series: “Introduction to Integrated Pest Management for Plant Diseases in the Home Garden and Landscape”. This series was designed for advanced Master Gardener training, but is also appropriate for home gardeners who are interested in learning to manage plant disease/pest problems effectively, while minimizing adverse effects to health, non-target organisms and the environment. This module serves as an IPM primer, introducing the basic concepts of IPM from a home garden and landscape perspective, along with an overview of the types of tactics used in an IPM strategy.

This publication is available in Video format only. “The Plant Disease Triangle” is module 2 of the series: “Introduction to Integrated Pest Management for Plant Diseases in the Home Garden and Landscape”. This series was designed for advanced Master Gardener training, but is also appropriate for home gardeners who are interested in learning to manage plant disease/pest problems effectively, while minimizing adverse effects to health, non-target organisms and the environment. “The Plant Disease Triangle”, introduces important plant disease concepts that form the basis for identifying appropriate IPM tactics for home garden and landscape situations. Actual plant disease examples illustrate these concepts and demonstrate how to develop an IPM strategy in a home garden or landscape situation.
